Inspiration

Well, I’ve been away for a little longer than usual.  It’s strange to be away from the blog for so long, but there has been a lot going on in the “real world”.  Some of the most exciting things are that it looks like we’re getting closer to a house with more land (yay!!) and we will be having our commitment ceremony this June on the summer solstice (double yay!!).

I guess with all of this going on, I have had a little less time to start on new sustainability projects and for whatever reason, I’ve been lacking inspiration for writing.  However, with the season really starting to feel like Spring, maybe that will soon change.

After all, there are a lot of inspirational things that come with the beginning of Spring!

Like, the smells…if only I could attach smell to this post.  There is nothing finer than the smell of hyacinths.  I wish I could harness it and live in a cloud of it all the time.

Oh, and they’re quite lovely to look at too!

I loved bringing in the first flowers of the season.

While sitting in the grass today, I noticed the first bee I’ve seen this year hovering around these purple beauties.

The time for crocusts is already almost over, but they sure have been lovely.

And of course, as usual I’ve been traipsing through the woods to see what I can find.  Coltsfoot is one of the first forest wildflowers.  It’s scientific name is Tussilago farfara and it has historically been used to relieve coughs.  This photo is of one just before it opened fully.  I’ve since spotted patches in full bloom. Spring is definitely here!

Also, there are still plenty of wild chives around.  If you’re interested in learning this plant, look for it now before the forest floor is covered with more competition!

One last thing — if you’re interested I wrote a piece a couple of months ago that was just recently published on the website My Yoga Online.  It’s about coming to terms with restlessness and accepting that sometimes it’s ok to just be alive – we don’t always have to be running around trying to constantly accomplish something.  Check it out here.

I hope you are enjoying your spring!
